Educational poverty is increasingly widespread in Italy. The project aims to tackle this phenomenon by means of artistic-expressive workshops, educational support, and guidance for students and families, specifically targeting the most vulnerable people
2,310 students involved
1,600 hours of school support
Educational poverty is an increasingly widespread phenomenon in Italy. According to a report published in 2022, in Italy 67.6% of children under the age of 17 have never gone to the theatre; 62.8% have never visited an archaeological site; 49.9% have never entered a museum; 22% have never played sports and engaged in any physical activity, and only 13.5% of boys and girls under the age of three have attended nursery school. In the medium term, this phenomenon impacts the development and employment opportunities of young people, generating NEETs, boys and girls who do not work and do not seek employment (over 5.7 million in Italy in 2023). The deprivation by children and adolescents of the opportunity to learn, experiment, develop and let skills, talents and aspirations freely flourish is closely linked to economic poverty, which does not allow them to enjoy the same opportunities as their peers in better economic situations. Added to this is a lack of awareness by adolescents and children of their school path
Prismi is a two-year project aimed at students in lower secondary school and the final years of primary school, teachers, families and local communities that offers artistic-expressive workshop activities, educational support and guidance to children and families and support aimed at fragile subjects. In addition, boys and girls will be offered opportunities to help them recognise and develop their personal resources and skills, alongside educational and psycho-educational support aimed at the most fragile subjects.
The project will also integrate the work carried out by territorial educational facilities, i.e. centres which are active in schools two days a week during extracurricular hours, where a staff made up of educators, artistic operators and specialised personnel will target their work on pupils brought to the attention by teachers. Study support activities, as well as artistic-expressive and psycho-educational workshops aimed at enhancing non-cognitive and relational skills will be carried out in small groups in the educational centres. Such activities will take place in Milan’s Sottocorno, Filzi and Capponi school complexes.
